The awards program gives MTA the opportunity to recognize members who excel in various sectors of the industry. Awards were presented in 20 categories, each focusing on a different aspect of the hospitality industry or individual achievement.
“We are honored to recognize these outstanding professionals whose dedication continues to elevate their communities and our entire industry. Each award reflects not only remarkable individual achievement but also the strength and momentum of Mississippi tourism. As we look ahead, I’m inspired by the talent, passion, and collaboration that will continue driving our state forward and growing our economy,” said MTA Executive Director, Danielle Morgan.
This year’s Terry Watkins MTA Member of the Year award was presented to Chris Chapman, former executive director of Explore Ridgeland. The honor recognizes an outstanding member whose efforts have made a significant contribution to the association and who consistently goes above and beyond in all that they do.
Chris Chapman served as president and CEO of the Ridgeland Tourism Commission from 2018 to 2025, leading efforts to position Ridgeland as a premier destination for shopping, dining, and outdoor recreation. With a distinguished background in tourism, including roles at the Mississippi Development Authority and Division of Tourism, she has played a pivotal role in elevating Mississippi’s visibility. A Certified Meeting Professional, Chris also holds a certification in convention sales and has been an active member of Destinations International, Southeast Tourism Society, and MTA. In 2021, she co-founded the Capital Area Tourism Association and recently served as its president. A devoted volunteer, she supports Buried Treasures Home for Women and mission programs. She and her husband, Keith, reside in Ridgeland and enjoy time with their three children and three granddaughters.
While Chris has now passed the torch, she continues to embody the spirit of Mississippi tourism. Her enduring leadership has shaped the industry, and her legacy will continue to inspire the next generation of tourism leaders in Mississippi.
“We are proud to celebrate the outstanding individuals and organizations who have made such a meaningful impact on Mississippi’s tourism industry this year. We have incredibly strong tourism industry professionals representing our state’s 4th largest industry, and those recognized this year are no exception. Their dedication, creativity and hard work not only strengthen our communities but also inspire visitors to experience the very best of what our state has to offer. These award winners set the standard for excellence in tourism, and we are honored to recognize their achievements,” said Laura Beth Strickland, 2025-2026 President of MTA.
